Frosted Valentine Butter Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Red food coloring
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Sprinkles or decorations heart-shaped for Valentine's theme
Instructions:
In a bowl, whisk together the flour and salt
Set aside
In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture, and mix until well combined
Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms
Divide the dough in half
Add a few drops of red food coloring to one half and knead until the color is evenly distributed
Wrap both halves of the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour
Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Roll out the plain and colored dough separately on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness
Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies from both doughs
Place them on the prepared baking sheet
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden
Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to make the frosting
Adjust the consistency by adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed
Once the cookies are completely cooled, frost them with the prepared icing and add sprinkles or decorations for a festive touch
Let the frosting set before enjoying your delicious Frosted Valentine Butter Cookies!
